Camping Checklist

Troop 326 Camping Checklist 
Food:          Travel Day - We do not cook the first evening of a camp out.  Either bring a sack supper, fast food or have already eaten.  WE DO NOT PLAN TO STOP.         
Camp Days - Food will be provided.  Snacks and Sodas are discouraged. 
Spending Money:          Generally, $5 - $20 will be sufficient.  (use small bills for ease of making change).  If extra money is required for a camp out for activities or miscellaneous spending, we will advise you in advance.   
Medicines:          Medications should always be turned in to the designated Troop Medical Officer.  We do not want the Scouts to self-medicate, unless specifically agreed to in advance by the parent, designated Troop Medical Officer, and the Scoutmaster. 
Clothing:          BSA Uniform - Scout Shorts and/or Long Pants, Class A Shirt, Scout Belt, Scout Socks(Required for travel, Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review)          Cold Weather Clothing(Jacket, Sweatshirt or Polartech Fleece, Long sleeve shirt / turtleneck, Ski Cap / Hat, Gloves, Warm Socks, Warm Shoes or Boots)          T-Shirts (BSA or Other Scout appropriate)          Pair of Long Pants (scout pants, blue jeans or other weather appropriate)          Tennis Shoes / Hiking Boots - Always have an extra pair of footwear          Socks - 2 pair minimum.  Good hiking socks (such as Thorlo or Patagonia).  Liners optional.          Extra Pair of Underwear          Cap or Sun Hat          Swimming - Swim Suit (if needed), Water Socks or Shoes          Poncho / Rain Jacket / Rain Suit          Bandana (First Aid or Hot Weather) 
How to Pack:          Pack all items efficiently in a duffle, backpack or nylon bag that is easy to carry.                    MARK ALL ITEMS WITH SCOUT NAME                    It is a good practice to pack a change of clothes in trash bag or large ziplock bag in case of severe wet weather or spills. 
Camp Site Equipment & Bedding:          Sleeping Bag - Inexpensive Rectangular bag will work for most camp-outs.  A good mummy bag is preferred for high adventure and cold weather camp-outs           Flat Sheet                                                                   Sleeping Bag Pad - Either Poly Pad, Z-Rest or Therma-Rest are good choices.           Regular Pillow or Small Camp Pillow          Fleece Blanket (optional for cold weather)                                                          Camp Stool or Camp Chair (in tote bag) - No lawn chairs (Optional)          Cots are not recommended for a campout, unless we specifically request or it’s summer camp. 
Personal Items:          Flashlight or Headlight (ALWAYS have extra batteries & bulbs)           Personal Hiking First Aid Kit (See Scout Handbook) - Troop has full First Aid Kit.          Day Pack / Fanny Pack                                                                       Sun Block / Lip Balm          Basic Toiletries (deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush)          Shower Items (Towel, Bar or liquid soap, shampoo).  Anti-bacterial soap is a good idea.          Toilet Paper          Insect Repellant          Pocket Knife (folding only - no straight blade)          Sierra Cups (2) - one for drinking and one for eating          Steel Fork & Spoon          Plastic Water Bottle with carrying device or canteen - Lexan Nalgene is good choice.          Small Note Pad with Pen, Pencil          Compass (optional)          Rope (to practice knots)          Deck of Cards 
Miscellaneous Items:          Plastic Trash Bags (2) - VERY IMPORTANT - (to protect gear & bedroll if rainy)          Scout Handbook (in large zip lock bag for protection if rainy) 
Prohibited & Discouraged Items:           Prohibited items - firearms, explosive devices, sheath knives, tobacco, cigarette lighters, alcoholic beverages, axes, archery equipment.          Discouraged items - camouflage clothing, electronic games, music or video devices.
